About the event

At Thornfield Heritage Farm, we raise Black Copper Marans, a chicken breed best known for their chocolate-colored eggs, which we ship all over the United States and Puerto Rico, along with their day-old chicks.  We also have a number of Endangered Breeds as defined by the Livestock Conservancy, which include waterfowl, turkeys, and rabbits, and love to introduce folks to these beautiful animals and birds.

Many of our critters roam freely on our farm and might very well walk right up to you and say 'hi'.  Our Kunekune pigs are visitor favorites, as are our Netherland Dwarf rabbits, which you will be able to sit and hold.  And at times, we may also have some beautiful Maine Coon kittens for you to see and pet as well. You can follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok as @thornfieldpoultry and @thornfieldmainecoons!

Tours are limited to a maximum of 2 groups with 6 people in each group, unless otherwise arranged.  The tour will last up to 3 hours.  You will need to dress in comfortable clothes that can get dirty.  To maintain our biosecurity, we ask that your clothes and shoes be clean and not have been exposed to other chickens or poultry.  We will spray your shoes lightly with a disinfectant when you arrive.

We will provide bottled water for the adults and juice boxes for the children.  Each hidden Egg Nest will be made up of 6 eggs with candy, 2 eggs with small plastic toys (some of these could be choking hazards around smaller children), and 1 egg with bubble solution and wands.

While we try to provide a safe environment, a farm tends to have more hazards than many other environments, especially a working farm like ours.  Some of these include, but are not limited to: our pond, which is fenced in, but is very deep in areas and cold; old remnants of barbed wire in wooded areas; holes in the ground where wild rabbits or groundhogs have burrowed; and fire ants.  If your child is especially allergic to outside elements and ever requires an Epipen, you should bring one, just in case.  Thornfield Heritage Farm does not keep Epipens on the property.

We want everyone to have a wonderful time, so Thornfield Heritage Farm reserves the right to evict any visitor, child or adult, who: is not following our rules, displays intentional cruelty to our animals, or acts in a disruptive or abusive manner.  Anyone or group evicted will not receive a refund.

PETS, FIREARMS OR OTHER WEAPONS OF ANY KIND, ALCOHOL ARE NOT ALLOWED.  SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED.
