// Our Story
Thornfield Heritage Farm is a simple operation on a small farm we share with our feathered and furry friends, where we can give them plenty of loving care and attention. What started as a hobby over sixteen years ago and through study, observation, research, and many, many trials and errors, developed into Thornfield Poultry first, and into what is now Thornfield Heritage Farm. We have raised Black Copper Marans chickens, as well as Silver Appleyard ducks, African Dewlap Geese, and Cotton Patch geese. These specific waterfowl are listed as Endangered Breeds by the Livestock Conservancy. From poultry, we expanded into breeding wonderful, lovable Netherland Dwarf rabbits and Maine Coon cats.

This year, we moved away from caged breeding of our Netherland Dwarf rabbits and moved them into our orchard, where they can have a more natural existence. So far, predators have not been an issue. We believe this is due to our Great Pyrenees that patrol our farm and keep the other critters here safe. It is quite an experience to relax in our orchard and watch the bunnies frolick and play. They have a "building" they can get out of the rain and inside, they have dug burrows like native wild rabbits to have their young.
We also have kunekune pigs and Valais sheep. Both are very sweet and love to be petted. We hope to welcome a new ewe (female sheep) to our farm after Christmas. If all goes well, she will be pregnant and deliver our first Valais lamb in mid-March. Of course, we will be shearing all the sheep in the spring!

There is a lot to see and experience at Thornfield Heritage Farm. The peace and quiet here is very attractive for some, especially those who have trouble escaping the grind of daily life. Come see us and experience the farm for yourself. Click the link below for more information on the Fun Farm tours.
